To treat the welfare of pupils as the highest priority, and to provide individual pastoral care that promotes a boy’s independence, whilst fostering respect, tolerance, kindness and service.
To develop and maintain the school’s facilities to ensure that the physical environment of St Paul’s sustains the excellence of its education.
To build substantive links with the local community through Pauline voluntary service, outreach programmes and the sharing of our facilities.
Our founder was clear that education must be spiritual and holistic, not just academic. Hence his motto: Fides et literis, faith and learning.
We actively promote five core values throughout the school. Faith, Scholarship, Humility, Character, Charity
Christian Faith was central to Colet’s foundation, and we remain by charitable objectives an Anglican school. We do not, however, proselytise or force religious belief of any kind. Faith includes personal spiritual development; personal contemplation of a system of values and a commitment to truth; and tolerance of and respect for the beliefs of others, including religious belief.
Intellectual curiosity; an interest in academic subject matter beyond the assessed curriculum; commitment to and respect for learning, including the learning of others; industry and diligence.
Humility is promoted as a key requirement for academic and personal development. Awareness of one’s own ignorance is the essential prerequisite for learning. Awareness of one’s own weaknesses is the prerequisite for personal development.
The development of character is part of an holistic education, to develop the person in body, mind and spirit, and the personality in temperament and behaviour. It is associated with integrity; commitment, perseverance and resilience; responsibility and accountability; independence of thought and deed; and the capacity for mature self-reflection.
A charitable disposition, associated with kindness towards others; respect for the beliefs and self-identity of others; a balanced sense of social justice; respect for the environment; a commitment to service to others; a sense of personal and collective obligations as well as of individual rights.
