St Paul’s School / Sport

Significantly, there is also a strong core of committed and enthusiastic coaches who help to deliver the cricket programme.

The SPS Cricket Academy aims to give the schools best young cricketers the opportunity to receive more specialist coaching during the second half of the Autumn term (Saturday mornings 9.30am-11.30am) and throughout the Spring term on a Saturday morning (9.30am-12.30pm).  Boys are invited to attend these sessions at the discretion of the Director of Cricket and selection is based on the individual's cricketing potential.

Most of those invited are current U18 1st XI players, potential 1st XI players from the senior school who represented the 2nd XI in the previous season and 4th and 5th Form players who are involved at county, regional or National level.  Heads of Cricket Year groups are also consulted regarding an invitation to attend these sessions.  Identification of potential cricket academy players also takes place during the various trials and practice sessions that occur during the Spring term.  Any enquiries about the SPS Cricket Academy should be directed to Nigel Briers (Director of Cricket)

Four Senior XIs, three U15 XIs and three U14 XIs represent the School on a regular basis. The 1st XI and 2nd XI play in a league, the other members of which are Hampton, KCS Wimbledon, RGS Guildford, Reed’s, St George’s Weybridge and Tiffin. In addition to these fixtures the 1st XI play Eton, Radley, Dulwich, Merchant Taylors and the MCC and take part in an annual festival at the end of term with The Leys, Monkton Combe and Fettes College.

There are five indoor nets within the Sports Hall complex and winter coaching is aided by the use of two bowling machines.

The 1st XI Squad went on tour in Cape Town in February 2016 and the U15 Squad have previously toured Sri Lanka.
